2010-11-08 Order of Orbital DrillingTM machines for production |
Stockholm, November 8th, 2010 – Novator has received an order from a Japanese customer within the aerospace industry for advanced portable drilling machines based on Novators patented Orbital DrillingTM technology. The order value is EUR 106 000 and the machines will enter into production in 2011.

The customers aim is to significantly reduce process time and increase tool life in the production. Orbital Drilling enables dry drilling without creating burrs and delaminations and without leaving chips and other residue in the structure which is considered a great benefit.
“We are very happy to receive this order since these units are the first to be used in production in Japan”, says Hans-Petter Andersson, CEO at Novator. “This a milestone for us and we are looking forward to continue building long-term relationships with our Japanese customers”
The Orbital Portable M-Series machines to be delivered are a brand new series of advanced portable drilling units. The machines are developed for increased efficiency when drilling in advanced materials like Titanium and carbon fiber (CFRP).
The Orbital Portable M-Series is based on Novators patented Orbital DrillingTM technique that enables drilling of holes with high quality and finish while reducing the machine inventory and the cutting times. Orbital DrillingTM is a totally new drilling technique where the cutter is revolving in a mechanically forced eccentric movement while simultaneously rotating around its own axis. In orbital drilling, the thrust force is very low which results in higher hole quality and is one of the factors that opens up for dry drilling. Dry drilling makes coolant obsolete and reduces environmental hazards.
About Novator Novator is a high-tech engineering company focused on providing efficient drilling solutions based on, but not limited to, the patented Orbital DrillingTM technology. Novators Orbital DrillingTM technology is designed to meet tomorrow’s production requirements for customers working with advanced and complex materials, mainly within the aerospace industry. The Orbital Drilling technology enables companies to significantly improve quality and productivity while cutting production costs. The main driving force behind using Orbital Drilling is the introduction of new, advanced materials such as carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP), and Titanium, materials in which many companies today are facing great challenges when drilling.
Novator owns 34 patents and has several additional patents pending in the EU, Japan and the US relating to the Orbital DrillingTM technology. Novators headquarter is in Stockholm, Sweden.
