Boeing also held a presentation on the development of Orbital Drilling for the Boeing 787 during a technical session on the 17th of September.
In the presentation, Eric Whinnem concluded;
'The development effort for orbital drilling in these most challenging materials used on the 787 has lead to a breakthrough in orbital drilling technology. With orbital drilling technology we have overcome many of the challenges faced to drill in these materials.
The right technology at the right time!'
